How to Make Your House Feel Like a Vacation Home this Summer
How to Make Your House Feel Like a Vacation Home this Summer

In our homes, you’ll feel like you are on vacation all the time. Their coastal-inspired designs and resort-style features can make any day feel like a getaway. To help you enhance the summertime vibes, we have created a list of decorating ideas for nearly every room in your home.

Create an Airy Feel with Curtains

No matter which side of the debate you are on – window treatments or bare windows – there is something to be said for watching curtains blow in a breeze through an open window. Our homes are designed with lots of windows to bring in natural light, so consider installing lightweight or sheer drapes in white, a neutral color or a tropical-inspired print. They can filter light, add a little texture and provide the finishing touches to a room. With warmer summer temps, you most likely will not have your windows open during the day, but as the evenings get cooler, you may want to throw open your windows and let the cooler breezes in.

Incorporate Fresh, Crisp Bedding

Some of the best moments in a summer vacation home are spent sleeping late in a luxurious bedroom. Hagood master suites and guest rooms are the perfect havens for relaxing and unwinding at the Carolina coast. Create your own sanctuary by adding a mattress pad, new 1,000-plus thread count sheets and pillowcases, and a bright white duvet cover to your existing bed. Toss on some accent pillows in corals or blues and greens and you may want to spend the entire summer in bed.

Switch Out Your Rugs

Area rugs can have several purposes – adding color to a room, providing extra padding under your feet, and highlighting the beauty of our homes’ high-quality flooring. Jute rugs are the perfect complement to any beach-inspired theme. They come in natural colors that resemble sand, are durable and budget-friendly, and are available in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Add Some Table Flair

Serve up style, function and fun when you dress up your dinner table or breakfast nook with coastal-inspired tableware and drinkware. Add some festive napkins and placemats and you will feel like you are dining at your favorite vacation spot. Our open floorplans provide clear lines of sight to a well-dressed table.

Install a Hammock

Hagood homes are beloved for their wooded lots and beautiful backyards, many of which are near ponds and boardwalk trails. The only thing that could make your outdoor space more enjoyable is a relaxing hammock. All you need are a couple of appropriately spaced sturdy trees or solid deck boards and hooks and you can bring the island life to your backyard by hanging up a hammock. A hammock is a great place to take a siesta, read a book, or listen to a podcast while you enjoy the outdoors.

Rehab Your Outdoor Furniture

If your outdoor patio furniture is not what it used to be, you can spruce it up for your staycation with minimal effort and expense. You can clean it up, paint it a bright white or beachy color palette, and switch out the cushions for instant resort-worthy furnishings. Your newly revamped patio or porch furniture will be perfect for entertaining guests or relaxing outdoors. Check out our gallery of rear porches!
